Carney's invite to the King to read the Speech from the Throne - and the King's acceptance - is a bit brilliant. Trump doesn't pay attention to much - but he pays attention to the Royals. He envies them, and he loves the gilt and glamor. The King, for his part, will promote Canadian sovereignty.
Trump will notice.

One of Poilievre's (many) big mistakes was losing crucial days of the campaign to the "Just Like Justin" nonsense. If there has ever been someone who is the diametric opposite of Justin Trudeau, it is Mark Carney.
So, every day, I wake up, feed the dogs, have some tea, and ask myself: "Why have the Conservatives kept Pierre Poilievre as leader?"
And then it occurs to me: Because no one else wants the job.

There will come a time when voters disapprove of the sort of contempt/impatience Carney showed Joly in this clip. At the moment, however, it makes clear how dramatically different Carney is from his predecessor.
Joly's a perfectly awful Minister, as I've been saying for years. But how he treated her, in full view of everyone, is rude and condescending.

Masked pro-Hamas lunatic displays what looks to everyone like a hand grenade at Walk With Israel on Sunday.
Toronto Police Services Chief Myron Demkiw: I don't see anything.

Hey, look. It's former Liberal MP Bill Casey, saying that innocent Jews deserve what they get because of the decisions of a government 5,000 miles away. Congrats, Bill, you (and the racist-publishing Hill Times, natch) have met the IHRA definition of antisemitism.

More than 50,000 Jews - most from Toronto - were at the Walk For Israel (I, non-Jew, was one of there too).
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow didn't come last year. This year, too, she made plans to be somewhere else. At the zoo.
In Toronto, Jews face the most hate. By disrespecting them, Chow disqualifies herself. Defeat her.

In the 600 days since Oct. 7, 2023 — when Hamas and Palestinian civilians slaughtered 1,200 Jews in Israel, raped 200 women and girls, and kidnapped 250 Jews and non-Jews — antisemitism has been overwhelmingly seeping out of just one side of the ideological spectrum: The left.
Regular readers won’t be particularly surprised by that. Since October 7, I have been writing about the unspooling of sanity in the West, and documenting the delusional psychosis that has seized the new generation of Jew-haters: Gen Z and Millennials who overwhelmingly classify themselves as “progressives.”
But check out this chart, from the Combat Antisemitism Movement (CAM), which is a loose coalition of about 700 mostly American organizations who, as the name implies, oppose antisemitism. It has been critical of antisemitic politicians on both sides of the ideological spectrum — from Democratic Rep. Ilan Omar to Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene — and has been attacked by Iranian state media, always a good sign
I knew it was bad, but not this bad. As the CAM puts it:
“We are now facing the most severe wave of antisemitism since the end of the Second World War, a phenomenon that demands urgent global attention. Jewish communities worldwide have been subjected to an unrelenting onslaught of violence, harassment, and systemic discrimination, fuelled by a fusion of far-left, far-right, and Islamist extremism.”
Important warning, one we should all heed. Because, as the terrible events in Washington, D.C. last week showed us all, hateful deeds are always preceded by hateful words.
OK, we get it. You didn't like Pierre Poilievre. In spite of his clearly thought out platform and its very reasonable presentation in the debate, his previous fixation on the dismal ten year record of the Liberals was "too Trumpy". Taking a cue from your own objection that Carney is "nothing like" Trudeau, Mr Poilievre is nothing like trump. What Piere has vaguely in common with trump is that both purport to stand for the rank and file ordinary voters as opposed to the entitled arrogant morally smug economically incompetent left wing elite. Both of them walk upright on two legs too. There the similarity ends. Moreover, by that standard of left wing elitism, Carney is indeed Trudeau 2.0. Being fair, agreed that Carney is at least an adult, which, yes, is a big improvement over Trudeau. Oh and he plans to grow our national debt by about $225 billion over four years. That works out to about a $56 billion a year deficit. So again, you're correct Warren, Carney is "nothing like" Trudeau. Our ex's typical deficits were more on the order of 20 billion per year. That makes Mr Carney sort of a "Trudeau on steroids", economically speaking. Definitely a difference, yes. But his biggest "Trudeau-ism" seems to me to be his absolutely MIA stand against Jew hatred here in Canada. That, for me at least is an absolute deal breaker. Both opposing men have one major positive quality: they are adults. That distinguishes both of them well from both overgrown teenager Trudeau and childlike bullying demagogue trump. So please can we quit dumping on Poilievre? He at least can be counted on to take a firm stand against domestic Jew hatred.
Pierre certainly may not be perfect but at least he is not a condescending, misogynistic, arrogant, smug, know it all, micro manager so there's that!
