CPC repeatedly shot themselves in the feet when it comes to the sensibilities of average Canadians. Danielle Smith suggested PP was more "in sync" with Trump. Since many Canadians view Trump as a threat, moron, would-be dictator and serial sexual predator, this was not a ringing endorsement. With “friends” like these …
Many Canadians – myself included - find MAGA-style antics of the Rebel News and Moron Convoy crowd distasteful.
I personally believe that PP is highly decent person with a sharp mind and good analytical economic skills. But he's been tainted with the Trumpish stain ... the Liberal strategy but with a big assist by his own supporters.
Poilievre and the Conservatives too "trumpy" reminds me of how anyone in favor of an honest day's pay for the little guy doing an honest day's work was a "communist" in the McCarthy era in the States. The hell with Donald Duck... er, oops, I mean donald trump. We're fools if we obsess over that moron. It's about OUR economy, stupid, and a trillion dollar Liberal generated debt. And about the Liberal "do four murders, get three for free". And spineless Liberal "Israel = bad, Hamas = good". If opposing that is "trumpy" then so is breathing oxygen and having two ears.
But I suggest we all go and vote anyway. Otherwise we should just use telephone and internet polls every four years. Or hey, why not Facebook?(lightbulb emoji). Yeah, now THERE'S an idea! Think of all the election costs we could save, so we can send even more rapidly falling Canadian dollars overseas as a symbolic virtue signaling donation to some far off country that they are not "woke" enough or using enough windmills to power their automobiles. Liberal forever! I Love Big Liberal! (might as well get used to saying it now. Soon the CRTC will make it mandatory.)
A final comment on Warren Kinsella's election diary: I have long had the highest respect for Mr Kinsella's journalism, and not because I lean either with him or against him politically. An example of how that respect was earned is a column he once penned pointing out that "if everyone is a Nazi then no one is a Nazi". It was refreshing to see an active and perceptive mind at work in the face of all the shrill mindless hysteria polluting most political forums.
Warren's assessment of the Conservatives' chances in the present election, though not much to my liking, should be taken seriously. Firstly, this comes from a thoughtful writer with a huge fund of political experience and a track record of understanding the game pretty accurately. Secondly, he bolsters his claim with the at least somewhat scientific evidence of multiple polls. Polling is by no means an infallible predictor, but when a large number of them taken over an extended period show a clear trend they have a high probability of being correct. Indeed, that is precisely the statistical methodology of scientific research that has brought us the modern miracles of advanced medicine, cellular phones, and nuclear weapons.
That said, there IS a finite chance of the polls getting it badly wrong, so I hold out the slim hope that my fellow countrymen and women will surprise us and see through the Liberal deception. But when Warren Kinsella speaks, I listen. At least he may have saved me from any great shock when the tally comes in. And that's the highest compliment I can give any journslist. I just hope this will be the one time that reality surprises us. And a courteous best wish to all who participate in this thing we call democracy, no matter who you vote for.
1. Have a good trip to the Middle East. Go in peace and return in peace.
2. I hope you are wrong - though you are almost certainly not - about the outcome of the election. The electorate appears very forgiving of the things the Carney-led Liberals did during this campaign (Paul Chiang, Buttongate) and unforgiving of the things Poilievre said (“Canada is broken”). As well, the voters are swayed by the bogeyman image the Liberals/NDP have thrust upon the Conservatives regarding housing, healthcare, and dealing with Trump. Poilievre has been Prime Minister for exactly zero days. The negative picture of Poilievre and the CPC is based on speculation. Poilievre is not turning Canada into the 51st state.
The Doug Ford comment was an acknowledgment of the “Tory disunity” reason the Conservatives may lose. If Ford and his campaign manager couldn’t contribute anything supportive of their federal counterparts, they should have just kept silent. Going public with such criticism may have given the undecided voter a push towards the Liberals. Certainly not helpful coming from the premier of the province that is home to the largest contingent of federal ridings.
I actually missed his comment, but always thought his silence in support of Poilievre was deafening. Then again I considered that voters here tend to vote provincially in opposition to whoever is in power federally. Which made me think he should grow a pair and at least be mildly supportive. Then there were suggestions he is waiting to take over the leadership of the PCs from Poilievre. Hearing him called Satan in the list of reasons Mr P will lose, immediately made me think "Damn. What did he do Now?". Silence was deafening but maybe it would have been golden. Ran to get my roll of duct tape (well, thought about it) but realized "too late". "Assistant Demon, no class" came to mind... after all, we gotta leave some room at the top for our good buddy down south. But that's the trouble with political jokes: we keep electin' 'em to high office.
Yes agree on Kory and ditto Ed Fast. My wife is working seven days a week on a campaign as a volunteer and these assholes chime in from the peanut gallery with their gold plated pensions and pay cheques with nothing that will help what SHOULD be the goal. As far as Kory goes, he still hasn't rehabilitated himself from his dumb-ass lowering of expectations of Trudeau's debate performance in 2015. Even with the three Ford wins. Ford is a HOAG and any moron could have won his campaigns. And Ed is still licking his wounds because his guy didn't win the leadership campaign. Boo hoo.
Agreed. But calling him Satan gave me a chuckle. Nicely put. A pithy remark or two seems like the only bright spot in politics these days. I was thinking duct tape myself 🙂
I think we get more from Warren’s “Thick and lustrous hair” TM than we acknowledge
2015? I wish

(grumble grumble grumble...bah humbug)
Too close to the election to think anything about it....i voted.. the closer we get to it..i see Pierre as confident and happy.
Hes not done any slashing of the ankles, no unsportsmanlike conduct. He's been factual and a gentleman.
Hes for the younger people as he should.. we all should be. They look to. Older people for experience and guidance..
Good luck Pierre! My kind of guy!

There is a mistake in your article: “Canada’s 2015 Campaign “
Three comments.
3. Doug Ford is an agent of Satan.
Little tough on Ford lol. But I do have to agree, trying to run Ontario must be the Job from Hell. 😈
The Doug Ford comment was an acknowledgment of the “Tory disunity” reason the Conservatives may lose. A bit of levity is welcome. No need for duct tape.
Technically, I called Ford an agent of Satan. He should only be so lucky to be the Big Cheese.
