I would comment on Matlow’s “no vote”, but I don’t want to risk a libel suit.

The Green Party may denounce Baldonado’s lunatic post, but it remains to be seen if he will be booted from the party’s ranks. Words of condemnation are toothless if they are not followed by action.

Of course Matlow was a no. They need to throw that Green Party idiot in jail. On the critics, the memo would appear to have gone out in the last day or two but I am not buying it. I have never understood the complaints about the number. First of all, they don't get any extra income for the work. When I think of smaller government, I am thinking dollars, not bodies. If each of the cabinet minsters and secretaries of State(whatever the heck they are, speaking of smaller government) get a parliamentary secretary, the total number of people getting paid for doing god knows what will be 76-two more than the unpaid critics.

Agreed. A shadow cabinet costs no extra budget, whatever its size. Also to the point, the large shadow cabinet can be a good training exercise to keep opposition MPs active and focused on the workings of government and the state of the country. It's also a practicum on working together cooperatively and effectively. If the Conservatives do get an opportunity to form a government Poilivere (or a successor) will have a large pool of experienced talent to draw on when it comes time to build a real cabinet. Allowing that not all of the present group may still be around at that time and not all of them will prove out in this "training camp", this large shadow cabinet is just good management of the party, akin to the similar strategy in some pro sports. Carney's "real" cabinet by contrast is just more of the same out of control Liberal spending spree, populated by a high percentage of utter incompetents, and all at our increased expense. Carney's deficit spending plan is **APPALLING**. Wake up Liberal voters! THIS is why your grocery dollar is becoming worthless. As for the critique against the Conservatives, the point about a large shadow cabinet is specious.

It was still hilarious that folks like Andrew Coyne and a bunch of all the other usual suspects pounced on this like it was some sort of gotcha moment which, of course, meant that the Conservatives had the right idea.

Time to get thoughtful rather than just angry. Not that anger isn't well justified, but taking apart Mr Baldonado's position rationally is a much more effective rebuttal. MAYBE it will convince a few undecided people who were thinking of following JB's philosopy? Let's hope. So here is the fatal and rather obvious flaw in JB's view:

Firstly, this is nothing new. It was espoused by some of my fellow young activists back in the sixties youth movement. It is tantamount to;

"I'm not getting my way by democratic means so I'll just get a gun or put a bomb in a mailbox and FORCE the rest of the world to do things MY way, because I am totally right and cannot POSSIBLY be wrong, no matter what ANYBODY else thinks or proves and no matter WHAT fair and reasonable freedom of anybody else's life dictates."

Even back in 1968 it was becoming evident to me that people following "the courage of their convictions" drove such examples as Martin Luther King Jr and Mahatma Ghandi, yes, but also drove the history of negro slavery in the southern US, the abomination of German Nazi doctrine in the second world war, the decimation and horror of the Viet Nam war, the Spanish Inquisition, and countless other human folly since the dawn of time.

The only bright light in all that misery and bloodshed was our slow and imperfect invention of the principles of democratic rule, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and a legal system with built in checks and balances to protect the life and liberty of each individual.

So if that system "doesn't work" for you idealistic zealots, then please do remember that someone somewhere has YOU in THEIR gunsights. Someone who just like you, has neither the patience nor the courage to find a peaceful negotiated solution. Someone for whom the law and democracy "just don't work". If you want to fight it out with them then you take your gun and they can take theirs and you two can go find an uninhabitated island somewhere and settle who's "wrong" and who's "right"... or rather, who had the better gun with the most bullets.

Do try to remember you'll need food, water, and transportation to get there. We more peaceful fools trying to work democratically want no part of your fight, so you'll have to fend for yourselves. Non-violent protest doesn't work for you? Then please, just go, and don't forget to close the door on the way out. We're too busy trying to build fair solutions and a productive world, free of perpetual bloodshed, using the imperfect tools of democracy and legal systems that at least try to be fair to all. It's a tough job and what true "courage of conviction" is all about. So take your testosterone filled violent protest somewhere else. We're busy.

Interesting comments....im a WHY person.

If its justifiable then i might agree or not.

I think if Netanyahu states as he did recently that others comments are giving hamas and Palestinians permission to do what they just did. Kill 2 innocent people randomly in the name of free free Palestinian... absurd thinking. Driven by mental illness? Why Pierre so many shadow ministers? I did find out that many list their seat to a liberal. Maybe close to qualifying fir a pension.?

Glad buffer zones were adopted. Really, enforce the already laws and that debate would be a non issue.. jmo

Such an inflammatory comment from the green guy in calgary. Hes has no respect for Canada. Greens, no wonder they are down to 1 seat.

Nice hat...great advertising .cute

Trump... speaks with 2 brains..one sarcastic and then he gets all polite. The twins!!!

How old? LOL. My brain feels like 40 and my body feels like 90, so we split the difference and that worked out to 75, and my wife told me to "Suck it up Buttercup". Easy for HER to say -- she's got five more years of mileage left on her than I do. I am immune to insults about my age (TOO old), height (TOO short), ancestry (mongrel), and waistline (too big, but at least that's something I can fix). (And thank you Liberals for helping me with the waistline thing by bankrupting the economy so that food is becoming too expensive for me to over-indulge in). As I told my sister: "Never lose your sense of humor. As you get older, yer gonna need it, every time you look in a mirror". (Fortunately for me, she laughed instead of giving me a punch in the nose). Cheers. ds

I have a good sense of humor about the "guy" thing too lol. Helps keep me sane (and my wife sometimes amused). But the number one vaccination I have against the strife of politics is my membership in Philip Plait Phd's "Bad Astronomy Newsletter". One look at the incredible display of uncountable galaxies out there seen in our marvelous telecopes puts it all in perspective and tells me just how insignificant we are. I can stare at some of the images in absolute awe for as much as hours at a time. And then turn to my little math and physics library for the best in human creativity. A flu shot for the heart and soul.

The galaxy is like yoga. Peace for the mind. Getting rid of clutter. Im a numbers girl.. business math. But not too much now. Physics.. not my cup of tea, but i like to understand how things work.

My husband is a sports guy now..retired and likes to mow his lawn. Lol.
